to dispose of as we please.
We have it in trust and
must account for it to those who come after.”

Facility

Location (click for more details & photos)

Wolf is located on over 180 acres in the Rocky Mountains, approximately twenty miles northwest of Fort Collins, Colorado (click to see aerial photo and enclosure diagrams).

Maps are available upon request; however, as indicated under facility tours, we are currently unable to give tours, due to the restrictions placed on us by our county commissioners. If you would like to visit the facility in order to determine whether or not you would like to volunteer, arangements can be made (click for details).

Geography

Ranges from 6800 to 7800 feet above sea level, with heavily forested areas, as well as open meadows, a year-round stream and several small lakes.

Habitat

Enclosures (click for more details & photos)

Enclosures are constructed with eight to ten foot high nine gauge chain link fence and two to three foot ground wire as dig guards (see diagram). They range from a quarter of an acre to an acre and a third in size per group of animals, which consist of two to four individuals.

Wolf does not use electric wires or shock collars. Wolf, first of all, believes that type of training, through pain, is inappropriate and, secondly, has heard of situations where animals have known they were going to get shocked and proceeded through the barrier, anyway. Ultimately, if the individual animals are relatively well-adjusted to their environment they are contained within, they normally do not have significant motivation to attempt escape.

Establishing that environment is the goal of Wolf. Wolf works very hard to group animals together who are well suited, and makes sure they have enough space to avoid uncomfortable situations. It is also important to make sure the enclosure is built correctly from the beginning. Once an individual finds a weak point in their enclosure, they will learn how to exploit other weaknesses that may not be so obvious. They learn and improve upon their ingenuity.
